Support

In order to insure effective support from the MOWS project, proposals written by USGS Water Science Centers that include PRMS modeling must consider the following:

  1. Projects must have formally trained, MOWS approved, WSC modelers.
  2. All proposals which include NRP resources must be approved by the chief of the NRP.
  3. One third of MOWS resources are dedicated to WSC support. In order to be a viable research group, we cannot get involved directly in application.
  4. MOWS supports many WSCs. Any WSC requiring custom development or excessive support must compensate MOWS according to the NRP guidelines.

PRMS has been successfully used for the following types of projects:

  1. Climate change studies
  2. Landcover dynamics (simulation of evolving landscape)
  3. Water availability and waster supply

MOWS does not support:

  1. Any PRMS "storm mode" or sediment simulation.
  2. Any PRMS computations done at a subdaily time step
  3. Any PRMS simulation or use of measured station data a subdaily time step
  4. Any PRMS simulation or use of precipitation estimated by radar.
  5. Any simulation of reservoir operation or other anthropogenic management practices.
  6. New PRMS enhancements beyond the documented capabilities.
  7. Any databases, decision support systems, or graphical user interfaces beyond the documented capabilities.
