We collected water from Pyramid Lake and induced aragonite nucleation by adding a 0.1 M solution of CaCl₂ until nucleation or whiting was observed under various conditions.

The parameters we studied were related to the available heterogeneous nucleation sites in the water. Nucleation experiments were conducted using:

• Filtered Pyramid Lake water
• Unfiltered Pyramid Lake water
• Filtered Pyramid lake water with added phytoplankton

Parameters we kept constant included: temperature, stir rate, addition interval and concentration of added CaCl₂.
