TREE CORES SUPPORT ICE-CORE RECORD

Selected tree cores collected 2 kilometers from the drilling site consistently showed a sustained period of reduced radial growth beginning about 1790 A.D. This reduction in radial growth probably reflects cooler summer temperatures that reduced the growing season at these high altitude sites.
