Mercury (a soft acid) generally forms strong complexes with soft bases
(e.g, S, N). There was no correlation between the amount of Hg released and the
N or S contents of the isolates.
There was no clear correlation between the carboxyl content and the amount of Hg released.
There was a positive correlation (R2 = 0.84) between SUVA and aromatic
carbon content determined by 13C-NMR (110-160 ppm).
There was a positive correlation (R2 = 0.78) between the aromatic
carbon content and the amount of Hg dissolved.
