Surface Properties of Cinnabar
- Cinnabar surface was negatively charged at pH 6.0 (pHpzc = 4.0), possibly due to exposed sulfyhydryl groups.
- The surface potential became more negative in the presence of organic matter indicating sorption of organic matter to cinnabar.
- The surface charge on cinnabar became less negative as a function of calcium concentration, both in the presence and absence of organic matter, possibly due to blocking of surface sites by Ca2+.
