Specifying Initial Equilibrium Profile

1. Select "Initial Equilibrium Profile" from the "Active Data" selector. If this option is not available, you will need to change the type of initial hydraulic condition.

2. Click the button. The "Initial Equilibrium Profile" dialog box is displayed.

The region from the water table downward (the saturated zone) is colored blue. A red line is drawn at the z coordinate where the negative of elevation head above the water table equals the minimum pressure head (see figure). Pressure head below the red line is hydrostatic (uniform total head). Pressure head above the red line is equal to the minimum pressure head.

The water table and the minimum pressure head may be modified by repeating the above steps 1 - 4, or by "dragging" the water table or the red line as follows:

  1. Placing the cursor on the water table or the red line.
  2. Hold down the left mouse button and move the cursor upward or downward
  3. Release the mouse button when the water table or the red line is moved to the desired new location.
